Peepers

109 West Lakeshore Drive

Hello and welcome to Peepers. I would like to thank you for coming in! My family has been coming to Kelleys Island since the late 70’s where I was a regular at the 4H camp. I quickly fell in love with the island life and have been a weekend warrior for the past 30 years. Starting a new chapter in my life, I have decided to share with you my passion for smoked meats and BBQ, leaving behind over 30 years in the automotive industry. As a teenager, I knew I would one day become part of the experience here on the island. I hope you enjoy our food and signature cocktails as much as we enjoy making them for you. Cheers!

The Microbrewery

Pubs (from “public houses”) have a long and colorful history. Before the rise of large-scale beer manufacturers, people got their beers from local makers. A good beer was cherished and the brewmaster was well-respected for his skill. We liked the idea of having a pub with it’s own beer on Kelleys Island. We thought the brews we made could be expressive of the Island’s inherent magic. So we started down the road of learning the craft and conceptualizing our brews.

Our Brewmaster Doug exceeded all our expectations. His range of brews are rich, flavorful, smooth and distinctive. So good are they that we’re now selling them off-island and attracting fans who’ve never been to Kelleys. (Our Kelleys Gold won Best Wheat Beer at Brew Week 2006 in Athens, OH!)

We’re very excited about our brews and their growing popularity.

We feel privileged to be able to live and work on Kelleys Island and want to say “Thank You” to all our visitors and customers, far and wide, for making this possible.

Charles Herndon Gallery

110 Laylin Road

Charles Herndon works out of his studios on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie, a sculpture studio built in 1980 and a painting and photography studio built in 2000. His work derives, in large part, from his experience of the natural features and processes he has observed on the island. His sculpture in stone, wood and metal has been a focus for him, as have been painting and photography.

In 2000 Chuck Herndon built a gallery on Kelleys Island, a two-story 48×35 foot building. In 2002 he built another two-story building of the same size.

Since 2000, he has been developing a sculpture garden in a ten-acre area around the galleries.
