The Kelleys Island tour bus not only carried passengers, it also advertised events. This bus gives notice of a dance. Tourism probably began on Kelleys Island as early as 1846 when the steamboat ISLANDER was put into commission. It made three trips each week between Sandusky, Ohio, and Kelleys Island.
Division Street crosses Kelleys Island from north to south, a distance of about two and three-quarters miles. Established in 1834, Division Street was the first road constructed on the island. It was built to provide a direct-line connection between the Kelley family docks at the north and south bays. The heart of the village, the commercial center, lies at the southern end of Division Street.Now,The Casino Dock.
This Table Rock was originally perched along Kelleys Island's north east shore. The top layer of the Columbus Limestone on Kelleys Island splits into layers one to three inches thick and contains layers of brachiopod fossils.This table is now gone,but remnants remain north of Camp Patmos.
The picturesque spot along the north east shore of Kelleys Island is called the Needle Hole.
The cemetery of Kelleys Island is a treasure to explore. Many grave markers are of very historical individuals who originally settled and laid to rest on this site. The first burial in the cemetery was for a John McDonald. He cleared the land for the cemetery and was buried in 1851 at the age of 26.
